This 5 km hiking trail is located a few kilometers north of the community of Beardmore on the scenic shoreline of Lake Nipigon. Along the Shoreline Trail, explore serene sandy beaches, spectacular panoramic views, and even have the opportunity to gaze at a nest of the endangered Bald Eagle that calls the lake's shoreline its home. Amid the wonder of the lake's scenery, visitors will view the devastation of the human caused forest fire that ravaged the area in 1999. Though no human lives were lost, 30,070 hectares of forest were devoured by the flames, including two parks. Where wild blueberry bushes and fresh green growth have now taken over, the charred remnants of lost trees can still be seen peeking through as a reminder of the serious consequences of being careless with fire.
